Now titled "Complainte de la Butte" for the soundtrack to Moulin Rouge, an English chorus distinguishes this track from "Moulin Rouge," a song previously recorded entirely in French that appeared on a promotional bonus CD for the release of Rufus Wainwright in France. This song is briefly heard during an opening scene in the film.
Apart from performances by Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, other artists contributing music to the soundtrack include Bono, David Bowie, Beck, Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink, Lil' Kim, Fatboy Slim and others.

Rufus has mentioned that he very much enjoyed working with Baz Luhrmann on a film project, and he hopes to do it again in the future. It should also be noted that Marius de Vries was the music producer for this film, who also produced most of the tracks for both Want One + Want Two.
