Kate and Anna McGarrigle's album, The McGarrigle Hour was turned into a television program special, performing songs from the album with friends and family members. Rufus performs solo on "Heartburn," and co-lead or backing vocals on "Schooldays," "Talk to Me of Mendocino," "What'll I Do," "Johnny's Gone to Hilo," "Alice Blue Gown," "Baltimore Fire," and "Goodnight Sweetheart."
Apart from the McGarrigles and Rufus, other singers include Loudon Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Chaim Tannenbaum, Jane McGarrigle, Lily Lanken, Dane Lanken, Sylvan Lanken, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt.
