This charity compilation, consisting of songs inspired from the cult film Hedwig & the Angry Inch raises funds for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, home of the Harvey Milk School. Located in the East Village of New York City, HMS is a public high school designed to provide a safe environment for GLBT youth. Wainwright's rendition of "The Origin of Love" really shows off his rock-n-roll side, making a great treat for fans of both the film and Wainwright alike.

Along with the Hedwig-inspired album came a film, later released in 2006 under Rainlake Productions. This documentary, titled Follow My Voice: With the Music of Hedwig, focuses on Harvey Milk School, the Hedwig phenomenon, and the artists involved in making the compilation album. The DVD was released in August 2007.
